Walk from Derwent Bank - Seatoller
| For other main page about staying at Derwent Bank see the page here. |

From Derwent Bank walk to Keswick (about 30 min) and catch the 78 bus to Seatoller from the bus station ( Boothes car park). The bus is sometimes an open top bus and sometimes a single decker.
Stay on the bus to the end of the route where it turns round:

When you get off the bus there is some uphill. Go up the road and then right up this path.

At the top turn right along this path. Its almost line a hanging valley and then there are streams crossing the path (there are bridges).

Past Castle Crag the distinctive looking bump you can see from the other end of Derwentwater:

You could take a diversion up to Castle Crag Hill Fort.

On the way down there is lots of rocks and slate on the path, presumably due to the old Castle Crag slate quarry

You can then go down to Grange or go to the left to bypass it.
Then back via Manestry Woods and along the lake shore.

About This SiteHere is some information I have gathered together about getting to and walking from HF houses when leaving the car at home. On these pages I have also put some history about former HF houses I have visited. The information here is based on my visits to HF houses over the years. It may be out of date so don't rely on anything here without checking. If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost. This is information I have discovered over the years which would have been useful to know before. Unfortunately the travel information on the HF website, for getting to houses by public transport, is poor. I think it would be better if the information on this page were on the HF website. |
