Walk from Derwent Bank - Lodore
| For main page about staying at Derwent Bank see the page here. |
From Derwent Bank walk to Keswick (about 30 min) and catch the 78 bus which goes on to Seatoller from the bus station ( Boothes car park). The bus is sometimes an open top bus and sometimes a single decker.

Get out of the bus at Lodore Falls Hotel:

Alternatively, in summer you could take the ferry to Lodore.
The next bit is not very nice, from the bus stop you have to walk back along the road for about 100m. There is no pavement so you have to walk along quite a busy road.
Unfortunately the hotel does not let you walk through their grounds so you have to look over the wall at all those selfish people in their hot tub.
After that you can take the path up by the waterfall, I went up the zigzag path not the steep way next to the waterfall.

Pictures of waterfalls don't do them justice when I take them.

After a while you get to a path and a track, with viewpoints, that slopes gently down to Keswick.

After Ashness Bridge I took the path to the right rather than going down along the lake shore.
As you approch Keswick you can look back across the lake to Derwent Bank.

About This SiteHere is some information I have gathered together about getting to and walking from HF houses when leaving the car at home. On these pages I have also put some history about former HF houses I have visited. The information here is based on my visits to HF houses over the years. It may be out of date so don't rely on anything here without checking. If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost. This is information I have discovered over the years which would have been useful to know before. Unfortunately the travel information on the HF website, for getting to houses by public transport, is poor. I think it would be better if the information on this page were on the HF website. |
