HF - Porlock - Car Free

This page is mostly intended to show a possible walk when staying at HF Holnicote House Selworthy (see the page about Selworthy here).

Many years ago there was a CHA house Doverhay Place in Minehead Road, Porlock, It was converted into nine luxury apartments in 2006.

Getting There

From HF Holnicote House you can either walk to Porlock or catch the bus. Note if you catch the bus before 09:30 English bus passes don't work.

There is a layby with 'bus stop' written on the road but no bus stop sign. It is just past the turn off for the NT offices.

The walk to Porlock involves a bit of up and down (see discovery point).

There were toilets and small shops: picture

From Porlock Sparkhayes Lane leads to Porlock Marsh which seemed a bit bleak although its good for wildlife.

From there you can walk back to Holnicote House via Bossington and Allerford.

About This Site

Here is some history of former HF houses I have visited (there are also some pages about getting to, and walking from, HF houses without using a car).

Over the years I have had holidays in houses that HF have closed. I think it would be good if there were somewhere on the HF website where peoples memories could be stored and made available online.

I know that HF have a paper history archive at Newfield Hall and there is an online book by Harry Wroe but I would see this as something HF could do which is more of a online community thing.

If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost.
