Totland, Colwell Bay, Fort Victoria and Yarmouth
| This page is about Totland, Colwell Bay, Fort Victoria and Yarmouth. For other information about staying at Freshwater Bay House see the page here. |
A nice walk around the coast to Yarmouth, you can walk back along the old railway line or catch the bus back.
It is unfortunate that there is a section where you have to divert inland to bypass a holiday home development.
I caught the bus at the end of the house drive. It is the number 12 toward Alum Bay. It is not very frequent but there was one at 10:10 check the timetable when you go.
I got off the bus at Totland War Memorial.
| I walked along Madeira Road to the Esplanade. There was a toilet there but the pier was not open when I went. | ![]() |
I found this old picture, is this what the pier looked like before?
In places, even the sea wall, is smashed by land slips.
Just beyond here you have to go up a ramp and divert inland to bypass a holiday home development. Unfortunately you cant go round the coast to Fort Albert.
After the diversion round the holiday homes the walk goes through a wood.
to Fort Victoria:
Beyond Fort Victoria is Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Mill in 2010. I don't think the old railway coach is there now.
The former Yarmouth rail station.
From Yarmouth rail station you can walk back to Freshwater along the old railway track.
The former Freshwater train station is now a garden centre and cafe.
In winter the last bit of the path is flooded so you are forced to go through the Cafe.
If you continue along the coast beyond Yamouth there is a section with lots of dead trees in the sea.

About This SiteHere is some information I have gathered together about getting to and walking from HF houses when leaving the car at home. On these pages I have also put some history about former HF houses I have visited. The information here is based on my visits to HF houses over the years. It may be out of date so don't rely on anything here without checking. If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost. This is information I have discovered over the years which would have been useful to know before. Unfortunately the travel information on the HF website, for getting to houses by public transport, is poor. I think it would be better if the information on this page were on the HF website. |
